What agriculture means to me...

Agriculture is at the heart of everything. Beyond fulfilling our need for nutrients and energy, agriculture is a large part of our lives. From family meals to birthdays to football parties, food is part of what makes people come together. Whether these are rituals or just family and friends getting together, food plays a huge part in these interactions we have with each other. So yes, we need food to survive but it is also how we show people we care.

The photo I chose is one of my son blowing out the candles on his birthday cake. Can we have a birthday party without a cake? Where did that cake come from? How was the flour produced, the eggs, the sugar, and all the many ingredients that went into making this cake? When you look at all the things that are a part of our daily lives, food is a central theme.
